Jumuiya Ya Kaunti za Pwani Unveils Groundbreaking TCH Blueprint 2030: Charting a Sustainable Course for Coastal Tourism and Cultural Heritage Development

The launch of the JumuiyaYa Kaunti za Pwani – Kenya Coast Tourism and Cultural Heritage (TCH) Blueprint 2030 On October 27, 2023, places the six counties of the coastal region at a more strategic position to tap into the vast opportunities in the blue economy.

This blueprint, the first of  it’s kind in Kenya’s coastal region, was developed by Camões, I.P., a Portuguese corporation, in collaboration with the Jumui ya Economic Development Secretariat under the Go Blue Tourism and Cultural Heritage Component Action, benefiting the Kenya Coastal Counties, including Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, and TaitaTaveta. It was launched at Forodhani restaurant, Mombasa, Kenya.

The primary purpose of this Blueprint is to provide guidance for the development, management, marketing, and promotion of the region’s rich diversity of tourism and cultural heritage.

“Its specific aim is to create inclusive opportunities for income and employment, particularly for vulnerable individuals and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), while also integrating these groups into the tourism value chain. To achieve this, the Blueprint emphasizes strict adherence to seven key principles:

Diversity, Inclusion, Equity, Plurality, Ethics, Sustainability, and Responsible Tourism.”

The Kenya Coast Tourism and Cultural Heritage Blueprint 2030 launch event was graced by Tourism officials from both the Kenyan Government and Government of Portugal, Representatives of the European Union delegation in Kenya, Ambassadors, County Governors from the JKP Counties, County Executive Committee Members from JKP Counties, Tourism and cultural heritage stakeholders from public and private sector and civil society organizations.

Lamu Governor IssaTimam, led the Jumuiya ya Kaunti za Pwani leadership in this event, with Mr. Francisco André, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation in the Government of Portugal as the Chief Guest.
